Important Anti-Scam Notice【LINE account stolen】 to All Faculty Members and Students
Please be reminded that, according to observations from the official LINE website, the number of customer service reports regarding stolen LINE accounts has increased by 80% in March compared to the same period in February. Based on user reports to LINE’s customer service, the three main methods used to steal accounts include: phishing, phone number misuse, and desktop version hijacking.
Method 1: Watch Out for “Pet Voting” Scams
Never enter your LINE SMS verification code on a website.
Scammers may ask for your help to “vote for our pet” or “vote for a child’s drawing” and direct you to log in to LINE before continuing. They then trick users into entering their phone number, password, and SMS verification code on a fake login page. Once this is done, your LINE account can be stolen.
Please note: LINE login via a website NEVER requires an SMS verification code, nor does it ask you to select “transfer account.”
Method 2: Phone Number Misuse
Never share your LINE SMS verification code.
Scammers may post fake job ads on social media, such as “Looking for online part-time workers,” and ask users to leave their phone number. They then trick users into providing the LINE SMS verification code as well. With this information, scammers can register a LINE account using your phone number.
Reminder: Do NOT share your LINE SMS verification code with anyone.
Method 3: Desktop Version Hijacking
Avoid scanning QR codes from unknown sources and stay alert for unusual login notifications.
Scammers may promise “free game coins for adding a friend,” providing a fake QR code that is not actually for adding a friend. Once scanned, the scammer can hijack your LINE account and begin sending spam messages or even committing fraud.
What to do if your Line account is stolen
If you receive a system alert from LINE on your mobile device about a login from another device that you did not initiate, click the link in the message immediately to log out from the suspicious device.
What to Do If Your LINE Account Has Been Hacked
1. If you suspect your LINE account has been hacked, immediately go to the LINE app, then tap More > Settings > Account, and uncheck “Allow login on other devices”, then change your password.
2. If your password has already been changed by the hacker, go to the official LINE website: https://contact.line.me/ and fill out the “Report a Problem” form. Once your case is verified as account theft, LINE will contact you within 24 hours and provide support based on the situation.
